Directional Cues are used for attracting attention to what the site wants the user to see the most. There are two basic types, explicit directional cues and suggestive directional cues.
Explicit cues are arrows which tell a person to look at a certain spot or read a specific piece of text whereas suggestive text is created in a way that will lead the user's attention span to a certain spot. Design and color schemes are often used in this way and considered with things such as arrows to discount offers or links to related products within the site.
Directional cues are foundation to the creation of web pages and for gaining the maximum sales per visitor to the site. Studies have been integrated into the use of directional cues to help marketer make the most of the space and information that they have on the site.
